Even as RS Prasanna’s directorial Sitaare Zameen Par is gearing up for release this year, an audition video of actor Darsheel Safary from the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par is going viral on social media. On Sunday, the X handle of Aamir Khan Productions shared a video of Darsheel in a school uniform. In the video, Darsheel’s Ishaan can be seen lost in his world of imagination while a voice in the background–the character of a teacher–yells at him. While the video has no dialogue by Darsheel, soon it introduces a voice note by Aamir Khan, who shares how he cast Darsheel for the role of Ishaan.

In the video, Aamir Khan can be heard saying, “I remember the day when I saw Darsheel’s test for the role. As soon as I saw the first shot of Darsheel, and even before he said a dialogue, just by looking at his face and expressions, I was like, ‘This is the boy, he is Ishaan.'” The video then shows a montage of Darsheel’s many scenes from the heartwarming movie.

Taare Zameen Par, produced and directed by Aamir Khan, released on December 21, 2007. The film, also starring Tanay Chheda, Vipin Sharma and Tisca Chopra in important roles, explores the life and imagination of Ishaan–an artistically gifted 8-year-old boy.

The movie was a commercial hit. Made on a budget of Rs 12 crore, the film went on to earn over Rs 98 crore.

Meanwhile, Sitaare Zameen Par, also produced by Aamir Khan, will star the actor in the lead role. The story of the film is said to be based on Paralympic Games, a major international sports competition for athletes with disabilities. However, the makers are yet to reveal the film’s cast and other details. Sitaare Zameen Par will mark Aamir’s acting comeback after the 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha.
