Delhi, Maharashtra schools closed due to pollution, Guru Nanak Jayanti, assembly elections
Delhi Maharashtra School Holiday: As Delhi-NCR residents woke up to yet another smoggy morning, Delhi’s Chief Minister, Atishi announced all primary classes will be conducted online. The decision was taken after parts of the national capital saw a major dip in the air quality index (AQI) and entered the ‘severe’ category.
The AQI in areas like Anand Vihar (441), Dwarka (444), Mundka (449), RK Puram (437), Indira Gandhi International Airport (446) continue to be in the ‘severe’ zone, data published by Central Pollution Control Board at 6 am showed.
As part of measures, the Delhi Government declared closure of all public and private schools to conduct online classes for primary classes, instead of offline classes. All schools have been ordered to be shut on Saturday as well.
Some schools in parts of Delhi NCR such as Noida, Greater Noida have also been ordered shut by school officials.
While Delhi-NCR schools have been ordered shut due to pollution, the Maharashtra education department has announced the closure of schools in lieu of the upcoming Maharashtra Elections. As per government orders, all educational institutions in Maharashtra will remain shut for a total of three days, i.e. November 18, 19 and 20, 2024.
However, the long weekend for Maharashtra is beginning for today with the celebrations of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Many schools have announced a holiday on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, which will be followed by a weekend (November 16 and 17). Following this, from Maharashtra schools will shut down from Monday till Wednesday (November 18-20) for Maharashtra Assembly Elections.
