Alia Bhatt says mother-in-law Neetu Kapoor and her have developed a ‘natural, organic friendship’, opens up about their Paris trip: ‘Felt like I was back in school’

Alia Bhatt shares a strong relationship with her mother-in-law, Neetu Kapoor and in a recent interview, Alia spoke about how their friendship has grown in the last few months. Alia also spoke about their recent Paris trip and said that she felt like she was back in school as her mother-in-law was cheering for her, just like her mother would during her younger days.

Kareena Kapoor, on her chat show What Women Want, asked Alia Bhatt which Kapoor she looks up to the most. After a thoughtful pause, Alia replied, “I think my mother-in-law.” She elaborated on her evolving relationship with Neetu Kapoor, saying, “Over the last couple of years, we’ve developed a very natural and organic friendship. It has deepened, especially in the last six months. Something happened. We even took a trip to Paris together, where I was walking for L’Oréal. She insisted on coming to the show, saying, ‘I am so proud.’ While I was walking, she was cheering the loudest, and it felt like I was back in school, seeing my mother there.”

Alia also recalled a moment that she shared with Neetu during her wedding and said, “When I was getting married, she told me, ‘You are my daughter-in-law, and I am your mother-in-law, but I had the most beautiful relationship with my own mother-in-law, and I want the same with you.’ She’s really very cool, full of hope and positivity.” Alia and Ranbir got married in 2022.

Emphasising Neetu’s resilient spirit, Alia recalled the time when the family was going through difficult times during Rishi Kapoor’s illness. “Even during her toughest times, like when Rishi uncle was in the hospital, she maintained an optimistic outlook. Despite facing challenges, she would always say, ‘Chalo, let’s hope for the best.’ Keeping that positivity alive isn’t easy. It’s not like she didn’t have her moments where she broke down and crumbled, but her natural ability to uplift those around her is remarkable. I think that’s where Ranbir gets his positivity from. She’s truly super cool,” she said.

Ranbir Kapoor has also praised the bond between Alia and his mother. In an earlier conversation with Nikhil Kamath, he said, “It’s rare for everything to fall into place and for everyone to get along, but my mother and Alia share a wonderful relationship. They’re more honest with each other than I am with my mom, which makes me really happy. I’m surrounded by amazing women—my mother, my sister, Alia, and now Raha—they are the best women in the world.”

Alia is currently promoting her latest film Jigra.
