Bhushan Kumar’s wife accuses Alia Bhatt of ‘fooling the audience’ with ‘fake collections’ for Jigra, shares picture of empty cinema hall
Actor-filmmaker Divya Khossla has gone all out against actor Alia Bhatt, accusing the star of manipulating the grosses of her latest film, the jailbreak actioner Jigra, by buying tickets herself. Directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Karan Johar and Alia, Jigra was released to mixed response on Friday. Divya shared a screenshot of a purportedly empty cinema hall playing the film, claiming that despite little interest among audiences, the film is supposedly clocking collections at the box office. Divya took to Instagram and shared a picture on her story, writing that the makers shouldn’t “fool the audience” with inorganic collections.

There is a reason for Divya Khossla’s Instagram vitriol against Alia. For one, Jigra has clashed with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Waala Video, a film backed by Divya’s producer husband Bhushan Kumar (T-Series). But more importantly, there has been an internal tussle within the industry ever since the trailer of Jigra dropped, with a section close to Divya Khossla claiming the film to be a “copy” of her film Savi, which was also a prison-break drama, co-starring Anil Kapoor.

Sources close to Divya claimed that Savi producer Mukesh Bhatt bought the rights of The Next Three Days for Rs 4 cr, when he was still associated with his now estrange brother Mukesh. The source claimed that Alia was aware of the remake rights and when the brothers had a falling out, and “gave the screenplay to another production house”.
Jigra had an underwhelming start at the box office, making less than Rs 5 cr on opening day. The film now has two days to record some growth for a respectable lifetime total.
