Lyca Productions, the makers of Rajinikanth’s latest Vettaiyan, are faced with an interesting conundrum. Of course, the TJ Gnanavel film received both positive and negative reactions. However, Vettaiyan was appreciated for providing Fahadh Faasil with the role of Patrick, which was a far cry from the kind of roles he has played in Tamil cinema so far. While he has essayed roles where he had to dial up his quirkiness and mischievousness in Malayalam, he played a straight shooter in both Vikram and Maamannan. Getting back to the conundrum of Lyca Productions, it is interesting that they are receiving brickbats for sharing the deleted scenes from Vettaiyan.

While the first one featured both Rajinikanth and Fahadh Faasil’s characters indulging in friendly banter, the latest scene revolves around Fahadh’s Patrick and Ritika Singh’s Roopa. The second scene has been receiving a lot of love since it has the Patrick character channelising his inner Rajinikanth, and enacting a scene from the Superstar’s blockbuster film, Muthu. This almost meta scene has been received warmly by netizens with many having the same issue they had with the first deleted scene. And the issue? Why did the makers delete it in the first place? Many netizens argued that the repeated sexual assault scenes could have been trimmed down to accommodate these sequences that cemented the equation between these characters.
