Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola who recently signed a 2-year contract extension with the club on Friday said that he’ll stay with the defending Premier League champions even if they are relegated.

The Manchester club is embroiled in a hearing over alleged breaches of the league’s financial fair play rules which could potentially see them face points deductions, a fine and relegation if found guilty.

“I said six months ago, when all the clubs accused us to have done something wrong, what happened if we are relegated – I will be here. Next year, if we are in the Conference we will come up to the Premier League. I knew it then, I feel it now,” Guardiola said.

The contract extension that Pep will keep him at the club until 2027, the Premier League champions said on Thursday.

Spaniard Guardiola’s decision means he will spend more than a decade at the club he joined in 2016 and has led to a dazzling array of silverware, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.

“Manchester City means so much to me,” the 53-year-old, who previously had successful spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, said in a statement.

“This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.”

City who are in a rough patch at the moment are in a 4-match losing spree, a first in Guardiola’s managerial career with losses to Tottenham in the League Cup, to Sporting CP in the Champions League and to Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League.

They will next play Tottenham in a Premier League fixture on Saturday.
