IIT Bombay: Last 5 years NIRF rankings — Engineering, Mangement and Overall

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is one of the premier engineering and technology institutes in India. Established in 1958, it was the second IIT to be founded after IIT Kharagpur. Located in Powai, Mumbai, IIT Bombay is internationally recognised for its academic excellence, research, and innovation.

IIT-Bombay offers undergraduate (BTech, BDes), postgraduate (MTech, MSc, MBA, MDes), and doctoral (PhD) programmes in various fields. Being the dream of many IIT aspirants, the Institute has stood among the top institutes with excellent rankings. Here’s a breakup of IIT Bombay last five years rankings in NIRFs.

In the last five years, IIT Bombay has remained in the same position. It has also maintained its score range from 80 to 85.

Even in the overall rankings under NIRF, it has failed to reach the top spot in the period under observation.

Even under the management category, IIT Bombay lagged behind IIT Delhi in the 2024 rankings. While IIT Delhi secured rank 4, Bombay was placed at 10. But it is also important to note that in the under-management category, IIT Delhi and Bombay were the only two IITs that reached the cut.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have shown significant progress in the QS World University Rankings with IIT Bombay leading the pack, climbing from rank 172 in 2023 to 118 in 2025, demonstrating steady growth in its global reputation.
