The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay is one of the premier engineering and technology institutes in India. Established in 1958, it was the second IIT to be founded after IIT Kharagpur. In the last five years, IIT Bombay has remained in the same position. It has also maintained its score range from 80 to 85.

Even in the overall rankings under NIRF, it has failed to reach the top spot in the period under observation.

Even under the management category, IIT Bombay lagged behind IIT Delhi in the 2024 rankings. While IIT Delhi secured rank 4, Bombay was placed at 10. But it is also important to note that in the under-management category, IIT Delhi and Bombay were the only two IITs that reached the cut.
