JEE Main 2024: ‘Stay calm, revise your notes’ – how toppers spent last day before the exam?

JEE Main 2024: Paper 1 exam for BE and BTech exams of the first session of the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) will begin on January 27. As per the official calendar, the JEE Main paper 1 exam will be held on January 27, 29, 30, 31 and February 1.

The JEE Main 2024 exam will be held for multiple choice questions (MCQs) and numerical questions. The BE, BTech paper of JEE Main 2024 will have three sections — mathematics, physics and chemistry and will comprise of 90 questions.

As students gear up for the last day revision, here are some tips from previous years’ toppers:

I used to study from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm. But, I didn’t study for that long at a stretch. I would study for two hours and then take a break. If I got too overwhelmed, I would take a short nap or talk to my friends.

For Mathematics, I didn’t refer to any books, only the problem sheets given by the school. For Physics, I referred to HC Verma and Physics Galaxy. For Physical Chemistry, I referred to Peter Atkins, for Organic and Inorganic Chemistry I referred to NCERT only. Coming from a state board, it wasn’t difficult as the syllabus of NCERT and state board was the same for PCM in Class 11 and 12 except for a few chapters, he told indianexpress.com.

There is no substitute for hard work. You have to give your 100 per cent. Also, one has to be consistent with their efforts. Remember to stay calm on the day of the examination as it will help you concentrate better.

Mrinal Garg secured AIR 5 in JEE Main 2022 with a perfect score of 300/300 and AIR 19 in JEE Advanced 2022.

“I would suggest students to not stress so much, they need to be sincere but at the same time also remember to relax and take out time for themselves,” he tells indianexpress.com.

NCERT is a must for any exam but apart from that I read from BK Jaiswal for inorganic chemistry, N Awasthi for physical chemistry, Himanshu Pandey and MS Chouhan for organic chemistry. Vinay Kumar and SL Loni for Mathematics. Physics Galaxy and HC Verma for physics.

– Since the exam is just a couple of days away, try to keep your sleep cycle according to your exam time. If you have JEE Main in the morning slot, avoid late-night studies and try to sleep early because it is important to be fresh on the exam day, so that you are able to perform with full potential.

– One mistake I made in my first attempt at JEE Advanced was that I went through all the notes of all the subjects again just in the last two days, till the last moment of the night before I went to sleep just before the exam day. Due to this, my brain got tired and I was not able to remember the formulas, and I was not able to think and visualise the questions properly. So don’t give in to your anxious brain and take some rest. Do go through some important pointers that you would have marked during the revision phase.

– Remember that the presence of mind is more important during exam day even if you have practised a lot before.

– Go and attempt the paper with an open mind, that is what the NTA wants to test.

N Naga Bhavya Sree secured an all India rank of 56 in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2023. She came first in the female category.

Three things are very important for JEE — preparation, strategy and temperament. A lot of students focus only on preparation and ignore the other two aspects. Having a strategy and being calm is very important. Also, be patient, don’t get afraid of small failures, and learn from them.

“Up until December, I revised whatever was taught in class daily and then did my homework. And, if I had any extra time, I used it by solving questions from reference books. From December to January, I studied mainly from NCERT books and focussed on Chemistry as I was weak in it. Apart from NCERT and coaching material, I referred to Cengage for Mathematics and Pathfinder for Physics. For Chemistry, I relied only on NCERT,” he told indianexpress.com.

– Try to go through the main reactions of chemistry

– Check basic derivations of physics

– Go through the formulas in all the three subjects

– You can also revise topics such as communication systems, chemistry in medicines, as there is a strong possibility of 1-2 questions in every set of papers.

– Remember to not start any new topic now. Go through the topics listed above, but don’t try to revise everything now.

– Before the day of the exam, relax yourself and sleep early in the night. Have a light diet, reach early to the exam location.

– Have a bottle of water with you

– Keep your mind focused in these last days towards JEE Main and do not take much stress.

– Revise what topics you are confident in and leave the rest.

– Do not even think that you are weak in other topics, just focus on what you know and excel in that.

– Make your own strategy to write exam, which subjects you want to write first, with the subjects after that

– Lastly give as many sample tests as you can give to practice time management. Time management is very important for the exam. Sometimes you might also feel that you knew this question but there wasn’t time left so you couldn’t write that.

– Always find easy questions first and write those then you go for the other questions which you think you don’t know.

– One day before the exam don’t learn anything new.

– Keep your mind calm

– Do not take any stress and be confident

– Give your best. All the best for your exam
