JEE Main 2025 January 28 Analysis: ‘Moderate to difficult’ paper, ‘easiest’ Chemistry

JEE Main 2025 Exam Analysis: The fourth day of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) for the Btech, BE paper is being held on January 28. The National Testing Agency (NTA) held the examination in two shifts, first from 9 am to noon and the second shift between 3 pm and 6 pm. The morning shift paper had moderate to difficult questions, students sharing feedback said.

According to Ajay Sharma, national academic director, engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited, among the three sections, chemistry was the easiest in the morning session and served as a time-saver for students. Physics, he added, was moderate to difficult, while mathematics was deemed the most challenging and time-consuming due to its lengthy calculations. The distribution of questions across topics was generally balanced, although some chapters were notably absent, he said.

The Physics section was considered moderate to difficult by most students taking the morning shift, with some questions reaching JEE Advanced levels of difficulty. Many questions were theoretical in nature. While the distribution of topics appeared balanced, some chapters were underrepresented or missing.

Key topics like Mechanics, Waves, and Thermodynamics were adequately covered, while Electrostatics, Optics, and Mechanics had a stronger presence. Conversely, there were fewer questions from Modern Physics and Magnetism, and topics like Alternating Currents (AC) and Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) were entirely absent. Instrument-related questions were not included.

Chemistry was rated as the easiest section in the morning shift and was a significant time-saver. Almost all chapters were covered, with Inorganic and Physical Chemistry dominating the question set, while Organic Chemistry featured fewer questions.

Most theoretical questions were directly based on NCERT, making the section straightforward and quick to complete. This allowed students to allocate more time to the other sections.

The mathematics section in the morning session ranged from moderate to difficult. Questions were well-distributed across most chapters, with Algebra being the most prominent. Topics such as 3D, Vectors, Binomial Theorem, and Conic Sections also had a significant presence, while Calculus had comparatively fewer questions.

Although the difficulty level was not excessively high, the lengthy and time-consuming nature of many questions made Mathematics the most challenging section for many students.

JEE Main 2025: Afternoon session analysis

The JEE Main paper in the evening shift, was overall rated as moderate to difficult, according to Ajay Sharma. Among the three sections, Chemistry stood out as the easiest and a time-saver for students, while Mathematics was the most challenging due to its lengthy calculations. Physics fell in between, being moderate to difficult. While the distribution of questions across topics was generally uniform, certain chapters were notably absent, he added.

Physics was rated as moderate to difficult by most students in the afternoon shift, with a few questions reaching JEE Advanced levels of complexity. Theoretical questions were limited, with the majority focusing on application-based problems. Mechanics, Waves, and Thermodynamics were well-represented. Electrostatics, Optics, and Mechanics had a stronger presence compared to other areas. Modern Physics, Electromagnetic Induction (EMI), and Magnetism featured fewer questions. Topics like Alternating Currents (AC) were entirely absent.

In the shift 2, chemistry was considered the easiest and quickest section to complete, offering significant relief to students managing their time. Inorganic Chemistry dominated the section, while Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry had fewer questions. Most theoretical questions were directly based on NCERT content, making the section straightforward and allowing students to shift their focus to the more challenging sections.

Mathematics in the afternoon session was the most demanding section, ranging from moderate to difficult. Algebra and Calculus featured prominently, with significant representation from topics like 3D Geometry, Vectors, Binomial Theorem, Conic Sections, and Trigonometry. There were no questions from Statistics. While the questions weren’t excessively difficult conceptually, many involved lengthy and time-intensive calculations, making the section particularly challenging.

On the first day of the JEE Main 2025, according to feedback from students and experts, the exam was moderate to difficult with the mathematics section difficult. Overall the JEE Main question paper was balanced and could be completed within the stipulated time with proper preparation.

On the second day of the JEE Main 2025, Physics was the easiest, followed by Chemistry, while Mathematics was the most challenging due to the lengthiness of its questions.

On the third day of the exam, the JEE Main paper was easy to moderate difficulty with Physics easiest among all and maths challenging. The distribution of questions was generally uniform, though certain units received more emphasis than others. Below is a detailed subject-wise analysis:
