Jeetendra reveals how his ‘jaan’ Rekha helped him resolve an income tax issue: ‘She even served the officer snacks with own hands’
While both Rekha and Jeetendra earned stardom in their respective careers, leaving a lasting impression on audiences, their on-screen chemistry too won over hearts, playing a key role in the success of the films they appeared in together. Some of their notable collaborations are Ek Bechara (1972), Anokhi Ada (1973), Suntan (1972), Karmayogi (1978) Judaai (1980), Jal Mahal (1980), Maang Bharo Sajana (1980), Mehndi Rang Layegi (1982), Mera Pati Sirf Mera Hai (1990) and Sheshnaag (1990), among others.
Interestingly, Rekha and Jeetendra share a close bond off-screen as well. Jeetendra, whom the Umrao Jaan star affectionately calls “Ravya” (a play on his real name, Ravi Kapoor), considers Rekha a “true friend” who goes above and beyond for others. On the occasion of her 70th birthday this year, Jeetendra took a trip down memory lane and recalled how she once helped him resolve an income tax issue.

During a chat with Filmfare, Jeetendra said that when his chartered accountant noticed the issue, the latter mentioned that the officer in charge was a huge fan of Rekha and would be thrilled to meet her. When Jeetendra contacted her and explained his situation, Rekha immediately agreed to it.
“She went out of her way to be cordial with the officer. What’s more she even served him snacks with her own hands. The fan boy was floored and my tax problems were all sorted . Now you tell me, who does that? Unless it’s a true friend. There have been so many instances where she’s just been there rock solid,” he shared, adding “Rekha is my jaan (beloved). She’s a yaaron ka yaar.”
