Jigra box office collection day 1: Alia Bhatt delivers lowest opener since 2014’s Highway, film earns Rs 4.25 crore
Jigra box office collection day 1: Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina-starrer Jigra released to mixed reviews on Friday. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, had over 3000 shows across India and as per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film made Rs 4.25 crore nett on its opening day. This makes it Alia’s lowest opener since 2014’s Highway, which was the second film of Alia’s career.
Jigra, which released in Hindi and Telugu, witnessed an overall occupancy of 20.13 percent in Hindi and collected Rs 4.2 crore with 2900 shows. In Telugu, the film had just 42 shows and saw an occupancy of 20.17 percent, and brought in Rs 50,000.
Alia Bhatt’s 2014 film Highway, which released when Alia was still to establish herself as a lead actress in Hindi cinema, made Rs 3.4 crore on opening day but eventually managed to make Rs 30 crore nett in India. It was after Highway that Alia became known as one of the most significant actors of her generation. Since then, Alia has had many successes where she was the leading star of the film – Dear Zindagi, Raazi, Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The film released alongside Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Aur Vidya Ki Woh Wala Video, which has managed to earn slightly more than Alia Bhatt’s film. The film, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, opened to Rs 5 crore, according to Sacnilk. The film, however, had about 3500 shows across India, comparatively higher than Alia’s film.
Jigra is Alia’s only release for 2024. The actor has been on a hit spree for a few years now. After the pandemic, when the theatres were struggling to bring people in, Alia delivered Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. She was then seen in Brahmastra, which also made big bucks at the box office. Her last release, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was also a hit at the box office.
Alia will next be seen in YRF’s spy-verse film Alpha, where she stars alongside Munjya actor Sharvari.
