Marco teaser: Unni Mukundan and Haneef Adeni promise a bloody and gory action thriller

From what we have seen from Unni Mukundan’s next, Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, it is clear that the film is set to be stylish and a bloody action thriller. In fact, it is almost like 2024 has become the year where every film industry in India decides to make the ‘most violent film’ in that language. Earlier this year, we saw Kill take the bill for the same category, and now, we are set to watch Marco attempt to take the pole position. The makers on Sunday released the teaser of the film to give us a glimpse into what is store when the film hits the screens later this year.

The teaser does its job of piquing our interest to know what this Marco is all about, and what carnage he is set to leave when he goes about completing his revenge mission. The mood is sombre, and the various players of the film paint the town red with blood.

Here’s the teaser:

Marco was shot for almost 100 days with almost 60 days spent for the action sequence that would be the highlight of the film. In fact, in a press statement after wrapping up the shoot of the film, the makers said, “Major props to our action hero, Unni Mukundan, and the mastermind action director, Kalai Kingson, for making sure every shot is pure fire.”

This fire definitely blazes through in the trailer, and with the able support of a strong technical crew, including cinematographer Chandru Selvaraj, editor Shameer Muhammed, and composer Ravi Basrur, who understands hype and elevation like no other.

Interestingly, Marco is a spinoff of Haneef Adeni’s sophomore directorial, Mikhael, which was headlined by Nivin Pauly. Considering how the film ended with Mikhael killing Marco at the top of a building, it is safe to assume that this is an origin story of sorts for the antagonist. This is an intriguing attempt, and it would be interesting to see how it is received by the audience.

Apart from Unni Mukundan, Marco also features Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, Arjun Nandakumar, Durva Thaker, Yukti Tareja, and Jagadish. The movie will also be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Backed by Shareef Muhammed and Abdul Gadhaf’s Cubes Entertainments in association with Unni Mukundan’s home banner, Unni Mukundan Films, Marco marks Haneef Adeni’s fourth directorial venture. While he made a successful debut with Mammootty’s The Great Father, Haneef’s had a disastrous run at the box-office with the two Nivin Pauly films — Mikhael and Ramachandra Boss & Co.

Unni Mukundan is currently basking in the success of his Tamil film Garudan, and hopes to have a good run in Malayalam too after a rather sedate 2024 with the mixed response to his Jai Ganesh.
