Salman Khan was driving on the footpath, traffic cop pulled him over and didn’t recognise him, recalls Aasif Sheikh
Salman Khan was quite a risktaker in his younger days. In a recent interview, his co-actor and friend Aasif Sheikh recalled an incident when Salman was caught by a traffic cop for his rash driving. Aasif shared that Salman was quite confident of getting out of the mess because he was a massive superstar at the time but things didn’t go like he had planned. Aasif also said that he shares a warm friendship with the star who lovingly calls him ‘Sukhandi’ because of his lean body.
In a chat with The Lallantop, Aasif recalled the incident from the time when they were shooting the 1998 film Bandhan. He shared that Salman was driving an Esteem at the time and one day, he asked Aasif to sit next to him when they were coming back from the shooting location. “We were young then and Salman had an Esteem at that time. He made me sit next to him and he started driving everywhere on the footpath, on the road. I said, ‘Salman, pakde jayenge (we will get caught).’ He said, ‘Pakde jayenge toh yaar Salman Khan hain ghabrao mat. (Even if we get caught, don’t worry, you are with Salman Khan)”
Soon after Salman said this, a traffic cop pulled them over. “He rolled down the window and the traffic police actually did not recognise him,” Aasif recalled with a laugh. “He was like ‘Isne toh pehchana nahi. Maine kaha shirt utaar shayad pehchan le. (He said he didn’t recognise me. I said remove your shirt, he might recognise you then)”

Aasif Sheikh recalled another incident from the shoot of Auzaar in Hyderabad when Aasif’s friend came to see him on set with his new car. To scare the man, Salman Khan drove his car in a rash manner and since he was riding with a celebrity, he didn’t really say much. After the drive, Salman laughed it off as he was just messing with the guy.
In 2002, Salman Khan was involved in a hit-and-run case which resulted in one death and three people getting injured. In 2015, Salman was acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.
