Suriya joins hands with RJ Balaji for Suriya 45; AR Rahman onboard as music composer
Suriya seems to be like a man in a hurry with the number of films he has been signing recently. He is currently awaiting the release of Kanguva, which is expected to hit the screens on November 14. Meanwhile, Suriya has completed filming Karthik Subbaraj’s movie, tentatively titled Suriya 44, and now has announced that he would be starring in actor-director RJ Balaji’s next.
Referred to as Suriya 45 for now, the project will be backed by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior Pictures, and is billed to be the most expensive film to be made under the banner. They earlier made Selvaraghavan’s NGK with Suriya in the lead.

RJ Balaji, who has co-directed films like Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Vishesham, is turning solo director for the first time with Suriya 45, and will also be the maiden directorial to not star him as the lead. Another first for RJ Balaji in Suriya 45 is that the music will be composed by AR Rahman. It marks the composer’s first collaboration with Suriya after 24 (2016). In his podcast, Balaji revealed that he has been working on the script for over a year, and is currently involved in the pre-production for the film.
While there have been no updates about the rest of the cast and crew, Suriya 45 is expected to go on floors in November, and will hit the screens in 2025. This seems to be a marked change in the filmography of Suriya since 2025 would see two of his films hitting the screens. The last time it happened was in 2019 that saw the release of Kaappaan and NGK.
