Vettaiyan box office collection day 2: Rajinikanth’s latest film Vettaiyan had a strong start at the box office on its opening day and now, on the second day, the film has maintained its momentum. The film made Rs 31.7 crore on its opening day, and on the second day, it collected an impressive Rs 23.8 crore, taking its nett domestic total to Rs 55.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
Despite mixed reviews, Vettaiyan is performing well at the box office, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In fact, the film has grossed Rs 49.1 crore in Tamil Nadu in the first two days and with the weekend ahead, the film’s domestic total is expected to cross Rs 70 crore. On its second day in theatres, Vettaiyan observed an overall Tamil occupancy of 58.53 percent. In Chennai, with 1042 shows, the occupancy was 72.50 percent, and in Bengaluru, the occupancy observed was 44.50 percent for 455 shows.
In 2024, the biggest Tamil hit of the year has been Vijay-starrer GOAT. In the first two days, GOAT made around Rs 70 crore. Rajinikanth’s film has surpassed the two day collection of Indian 2 as the Kamal Hassan film made Rs 43.8 crore at the box office.

The film’s success is a testament to Rajinikanth’s enduring popularity, particularly in the southern states. Vettaiyan marks the superstar’s first major release after the highly success 2023 release Jailer, which was directed by filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar, and fans are eagerly waiting to see if it will replicate the same success. Jailer made Rs 650 crore worldwide during its theatrical run.
Interestingly, Vettaiyan has not made a significant impact in Hindi-speaking regions, despite featuring Amitabh Bachchan in a key role. However, the film’s overseas performance has been promising, with reports suggesting it opened with USD 3.3 million in foreign locations. The film is also facing tough competition in the northern India by Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Alia Bhatt’s Jigra which released in cinemas on October 11.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan is a cop drama that tackles hard-hitting subjects like encounter killings and corruption in the education sector. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Amitabh Bachchan making his Tamil film debut, Manju Warrier, Kishore, Ritika Singh, and Fahadh Faasil in pivotal roles, with Rana Daggubati playing the antagonist.
