Vettaiyan box office collection day 6: Rajinikanth-Amitabh Bachchan starrer plummets further, nears Rs 250 cr worldwide

Vettaiyan box office collection day 6: The Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Vettaiyan continued its lukewarm box office performance on its first Tuesday, with the film dropping further after a mammoth Monday fall. Vettaiyan netted Rs 4.25 cr all-India nett at the domestic box office on day six of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

These figures represent at least a Rs 1 crore decline from Monday’s revenue, and it is important that the film doesn’t fall further if it wants to post a respectable lifetime figure. Vettaiyan’s all-India nett stands at Rs 114 cr, the majority of which has come from Tamil Nadu.

Vettaiyan didn’t have a release in national multiplex chains in North India due to the tussle between makers and exhibitors over the theatrical-OTT window of Tamil films. The film also released in Telugu and Kannada.  According to the official collections posted by the makers, Vettaiyan has grossed Rs 240 cr worldwide. The production house took to Instagram and claimed that the film is on its way to Rs 250 cr global gross.

“VETTAIYAN ????️ crosses 240+ crores worldwide and still counting! ???? Thalaivar’s dominance knows no bounds. ???? The hunt continues!” read the cation.

Vettaiyan is the second-highest grossing Tamil film of the year, behind Vijay’s hit The Greatest of All Time (GOAT). Vijay’s penultimate film before his political plunge grossed Rs 455 cr worldwide, according to the makers. Vettaiyan, battling mixed word of mouth, will not be able to come anywhere near GOAT at the current rate.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, who had previously helmed the acclaimed Jai Bhim, Vettaiyan is projected to end its lifetime run with above Rs 350 cr. The film will now hope to break the record of another Rajinikanth-starrer Enthiran (Robot), which had grossed Rs 291 worldwide in 2010. Vettaiyan also stars Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan.
