
WBCHSE introduces new subjects in Class 12th HS curriculum, subject combinations revised
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has made changes in the Class 12 HS curriculum. The changes in the WB Class 12 curriculum will be made effective from the 2025-26 academic session and will be applicable to only those students who will register from the 2025-26 session. As many as five new subjects are introduced and subject combinations offered by the Council have also been revised.
Subjects including environmental science (EVSC), fisheries and aquaculture (FSAQ), business mathematics and basic statistics (BMBS) and basic mathematics and social science (BMSS) are introduced.
Two subjects — ARTI and DTSC, introduced from the academic year 2023-24 will be withdrawn and AIDS (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) will be introduced to all schools either with ARTI or DTSC in their subject list, the Council said.
The eligibility criteria for teachers to be recruited for the newly introduced subjects have also been notified.
The first language subjects will include English – A and Bengali A, Hindi A, Nepali A, Urdu, Santhali, Odia, Telugu or Punjabi. Whereas, the second language subjects will include English B, Bengali B, Hindi B, alternative English, or Nepali B. Three subject combinations will be allowed for WB HS Class 12 2025-26 exams.
The West Bengal Class 12 exams will be held between March 3 and March 18, 2025. The WB 2025 Higher Secondary board exams will begin with Bengali (A), English (A), Hindi (A), Nepali (A), Urdu, Santhali, Odia, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi papers on the first day of the exam. WB HS 2025 exams will be conducted from 10 am to 1:15 pm. Students will also be get extra 15 minutes to read the question paper. While all the exams will be held for three hours, the WB HS 2025 exams for health and physical education, visual arts, music and vocational subjects will be held for two hours (between 10 am and 12 pm).
